INGREDIENTS

1 kg flour
5 tsp Anici, an aniseed liqueur.
10 tsp peanut oil
10 tsp sugar
9 eggs
3 sachets of Vanilla sugar
2 sachets of baking powder

HISTORY

In the 1950s many Italian workers came to Belgium. They found work in the car industry or in the mines in Limburg. Nowadays, the mines are closed but the descendants of these workers still live there. Many of them still make their Italian dishes in the traditional way. One of those dishes is castagnole. They are one of the dozens of Italian desserts. They were originally created in Liguria, Emila and Lombarida. Nowadays, you can find them all over Italy. They are most often made in February at Carnival time.

HOW TO

Pour the flour into a bowl.Add the sugar and the vanilla sugar.Mix well.Sieve the baking powder into the bowl.Make a well.Add the eggs to the well one by one.Add the liqueur and the oil.Mix well and knead until elastic and smooth.Make little rolls of the dough.Deep-fry until gold brown. Sprinkle with sugar and serve.
