INGREDIENTS

300 grams of self raising flour
200 grams of brown sugar
200 grams of raisins and currants
1 tablespoon of spices (cookies)
1 tablespoon of cocoa
250 millilitre of milk
100 grams of hazelnuts

HISTORY

The first ‘breads/cakes’ were made in the middle ages. In that period they were made of honey and rye flour. In the century that followed, milled pepper was added to the ‘cake/bread’ and that’s when the first ‘spiced bread’ was made. Back in the early days, only the rich could afford a spiced bread, and then mainly in the heydays. Because of the fact that the bread was richly filled with expensive spices. These spices were so expensive that they were inaccessible to the poor, which also applied to butter, currants and raisins.

HOW TO

Pastry – serves: ± 15 – preparation time: 10 minutes - cooking time: 65 minutes Preheat the oven to 347 degrees F (175 degrees C). Add all the ingredients except the hazelnuts in a bowl. Mix the ingredients with a mixer. Add the hazelnuts and stir them through the mix. Grease a rectangular baking tin. Add the mix to the baking tin. Bake for 65 minutes in oven.
